Design the control plane and orchestration layer for Netflix's in-house studio compute/storage infrastructure

Netflix's Creative Compute and Storage Software Services team builds an in-house infrastructure platform that acts like a cloud provider for global creative production workflows. This role owns orchestration of compute, disk, network, and other resources across globally distributed systems, and advances core VM, container, and storage technologies. You'll need 5+ years in Go, Java, or a similar OO language and a track record designing large, fault-tolerant distributed systems across regions.

What this interview tests

  • Distributed systems design across global regions (availability, fault tolerance, performance)
  • Infrastructure orchestration: compute, disk, network resource management
  • VM/container/storage platform internals
  • IaaS integration (AWS, GCP, VMware) and building an internal cloud-provider abstraction
  • Setting technical direction and influencing cross-functional partners
  • Operational excellence, observability, developer experience for platform consumers

Common question themes

Design a globally distributed resource orchestration system with regional failure isolation

Tradeoffs in building an internal cloud-provider abstraction over multiple IaaS backends

A time you set architectural direction and had to convince skeptical stakeholders

Debugging a hard, ambiguous distributed-systems production issue

gRPC API design or Kubernetes/PaaS experience if claimed as bonus skill

Mentoring engineers and building technical community across an org
